SWING DANCE & SHUFFLE

Swing & shuffle: the pleasure of finding your rhythm

Although both involve moving to lively music, swing dance and shuffle dance are distinct disciplines. Begin by clarifying whether you are interested in dancing with a partner or practising footwork on your own.

Do not assume the two styles are taught in the same class

If swing interests you, tell us the music or style you have in mind. Preparation also differs depending on whether you want partner practice or to learn basic rhythm alone. A video can help clarify the direction you want to take.

If you are looking for shuffle dance, begin by identifying the basic steps you want to learn rather than focusing on fast feet. You can discuss whether your goal is a section from a short footwork video or practising combinations to music.

Repeat small movements before increasing speed

Swing dance requires practice maintaining the recurring rhythm in the music, not just memorising the order of your feet. When moving with a partner, check each other's stride and travelling space, and start by finding a comfortable shared pace.

For shuffle footwork, slowly separate the direction of each foot from the moment your weight shifts. Connecting a short section comfortably comes before keeping up with an entire fast song. Do not drag your feet forcefully across the floor or force yourself to repeat uncomfortable movements.

Choose footwear and practice space for the style

The same shoes will not always suit both swing and shuffle. Check how they interact with the actual floor, including whether they slide too much or grip strongly. Ask about indoor footwear requirements before class and clear the surrounding space before practising.

Tell us your preferred style, dance experience, group size and date. Available locations in Jamsil–Songpa, Seocho and Seodaemun and instructor schedules are checked individually. Both styles are not necessarily offered regularly together at every location.

Check your preferred location and schedule

Tell us your preferred location—Jamsil–Songpa ART SPACE, Seocho ART CENTER or Seodaemun ART HALL—and available days and times. Class arrangements, instructor schedules and fees are provided after consultation.

Frequently asked questions for first-time enquiries

Are swing and shuffle taught in one class?

They are different disciplines, so please specify the one you are interested in. We will check instructor schedules and possible class formats for each style.

I would like to start swing dance on my own.

Tell us that you plan to attend alone and which style interests you. We will explain possible arrangements for individual rhythm practice and partner classes based on current availability.

Shuffle videos look very fast. Can I learn slowly?

Send the video and section you want to learn. We can discuss breaking the basic steps into smaller parts. It is best to set a goal based on your current experience and a speed at which you can move comfortably.
